Sorry it seems the product I am looking for in the device field is not listed. I need an affordable (less than 50 CAD) switchport tester that can test if there is a fault from the patch panel to the user data panel. And also can detect if there is a problem on the switchport itself. Is there such a tool? thanks!
Are you trying to test network cabling? So you would want something like this: Insten Cable Tester For RJ45 / RJ11. That will help you test the basic wiring of the run or patch cable. Often times you likely have a damaged run that this simple tester won’t find. Here you need a TDR to send a signal down the wire and see were it reflects the damage. These are expensive! Fluke Networks MS2-100 If you are talking about the Ethernet switch hub thats a different level of diagnostics! Here we need to first make sure the cable run is working correctly before you can do anything with the switch. Now the fun part! The switch unit you are using may offer RMON Probe or other port diagnostics that can be accesses on the monitoring system which could be in-band or out of band. As an example: NetGear ProSAFE 8-port Gigabit Smart Managed Switch. The poor mans tool is two systems which send data between them over the ports of the switch.
