Hi Everyone, A week ago my MBA glitched out on the screen and i shut it down. Afterwarrds when I tried to turn it back on it started beeping 3 times over and over again. I found out it had to do withh bad RAM (online and direct from genius at apple store). I decided to buy a transcend jetdrive 500 240gb board and do the replacement myself. But no luck. I read about the thermal paste issue and again did this with the help of an experienced friend and no luck. I tried every start up key combo and still no luck. The screen continues to stay black and beep three times… Is there a step I’m missing? Is there a way to hard reset the computer so it realizes there is a new SSD inside? Any other suggestions on a fix? or just bite the bullet and let apple fix it for 280 bucks???
Well first you need to learn th different between RAM (random access memory and storage space (whether it be a hard drive, hired drive or SSD drive), they are totally different. Unfortunately on this machine he RAM is not user-serviceable. It is integrated into the logic board. Your best bet will probably to return it to the original configuration, bite the bullet and get the Depot repair done by Apple for the $280. It will probably mean they have to replace the logic board. Do not tell Apple that you have been into it! Before doing that, if you have a flash drive with the current operating system on it or an external drive I would try booting from that. There have been some machines that the three beeps were not related to RAM issues.
