I was going 100kmph on the highway and battery saver kicked in and everything started dying. Traction, power steering, abs everything, then I had zero acceleration. My dash said my voltage was declining quickly from the normal 14.6v charging down to 4v when everything quit. I replaced the battery but now my dash reads 11.4- 11.7v up and down and battery saver mode kicks in when you use the radio or ac. Possibility that the voltage regulator in the altenator fried? Any other things I can looks for?
Hi @devilsmoke , Connect a DMM (digital multimeter - voltmeter function) across the car battery terminals with the engine running just to ensure that the dash voltmeter is showing the correct voltage. The meter should show a reading of between 13.8 -14.5V DC. If the reading is less then 13.8VDC then there is a problem with the alternator. It could be the regulator but nowadays they are usually built into the alternator. You have checked that the serpentine belt is OK and that the alternator is turning with the engine running? (I call it the fan belt but most radiator fans are now electric and not belt driven so I’m not sure of the correct name ;-) (be safety aware when you do any of the above - the engine is running).
