I understand that the 2018 MacBook Pro 15” has the True Tone technology and others. I have a 2016 MacBook Pro 15” with a cracked display. If I have access to a 2018 display, will it be a direct swap? Are the connections the same on the motherboard between the 2016 and 2018? I know that the connections for the iPhone 6s/7/8s are different despite the displays having the same dimensions and fitting. Is this the case for the new MacBook?
They are not interchangeable sadly. From my experience it did not work for me when I tried a 2017 Display on a 2018 MBP. I will assume that it is the same way vice versa. Also, I would not reccomend taking apart these computers either as they are horrible machines to repair too. I tore a ribbon/flex cable when working on a 2017 MBP the other day and that landed me a costly and frustrating replacement of that cable.
True Tone is more than the display its self its also the system logic to support it. Replacing the display won’t offer it alone.
