As you can see here the parts are different between the 2017 & 2015 models: 27” iMac Retina 5K LCD Panel 2017, Apple P/N 661-07323, Display ID LM270QQ1 (SD)(C1)27” iMac Retina 5K LCD Panel 2015, Apple P/N 661-03255, Display ID LM270QQ1 (SD)(B1) Apple uses a custom controller board (T-CON) which is different between these displays from what I’ve been told. The newer model also offers a brighter display.
