Hello, I recently installed a new third-party battery and replaced my HDD with a Samsung Evo SSD. Everything has been running amazingly, battery life has been great, the speed of my MacBook is so much quicker it has become a joy to use again. But, just recently, as usual when converting video formats, I have noticed the base of my laptop getting very very hot. Usually I’d notice that the fans would ramp up to combat this but since replacing the battery and SSD I haven’t heard the fans increase. I downloaded “Temperature Gauge Pro”. All the sensors appear to be giving a reading and the temperature increases when the machine is used. It says the fans are running at approx. 2000rpm. I‘ve adjusted the settings on “Temperature Gauge Pro” so the fan increases its speed when the CPU Core 2 reaches a certain temp and that works just fine, but when I change it back to its default settings the fan drops to approx. 2000rpm. I have run the hardware test and the only fault it comes up with is 4BAT/6/40000005: 0x8983e990 which, after doing some research, could be caused by the fact I have used a 3rd party battery. I was curious as to what the default temperature sensor is set to sense? If it is set to sense the HDD, now I have replaced it with the SSD that has no moving parts and never gets above approx. 35°C, could this be the issue? I am still running OS X Mavericks and am reluctant to upgrade, could this be the problem? Can anyone help me and possibly suggest a remedy, it would be greatly appreciated? How about downloading CoconutBattery This gem will allow you to see your batteries health as well as see the thermal sensor. Sounds like you got a very cheap battery! SMC uses all of the sensors to gage what the fan’s need to run at, the battery maybe interfering with SMC.
