Chosen Solution
2007 iMac will boot into safe mode, but goes to the progress bar and stalls in regular mode. I have replaced the hard drive and attempted to load an OS. I’ve tried Tiger, Leopard and El Capitan. No luck so far with anything. I still get the circle/slash. At one point, the machine attempted to boot then it shut down. Suggestions? I have a time machine backup, but can’t access it.

Your machine may not take anything higher than 10.7.5 Lion. You will need to format your new drive before attempting to install a system.
