fuel gauge 1/2 tank but runs out of gas
This sounds like a sender problem, you can replace the fuel pump that has the sender for fuel level integrated — another potential fix is to put in a couple bottles of fuel system cleaner on a half tank or under of gas. Often it will free the sender. But to replace everything you have to drop the tank. We had a Caravan with similar problem and just tracked miles very carefully.
Suspect either a faulty gauge or sending unit in tank . Either way start by checking the wires on the fuel tank sending unit which also powers the fuel pump. Your looking for loose and or corroded connections.
