Hello everyone. I am having a reading disc trouble with the Original Xbox system. Whenever I put in a Xbox disc this pops up “ This is a Xbox game disc. Please put it in your Xbox to start playing” like if you were to put a Xbox game in a PlayStation system. When I put in a DVD it doesn’t play the screen just goes black. So it only plays CDs. And Lego star wars the demo on a DVD special. Won’t play the movie though. I have tried different Xbox games, I tried flipping it upside down to blow a can of air into the disc reader lens. I took it apart to clean just the lens. Any more tips or Ideas? Thank you in advance. UPDATE I learned that the laser could start not giving enough power to read the disc I put in. So following Youtube I took apart my Xbox to where I could use a miltimeater. Than useing a screw I adjusted it for more power. The youtube video said to keep raising the laser in small amounts so it doesn’t burn out the lens. As I was doing so now the CD drive keeps wanting to open even after I hit the button to shut the CD drive. Any thoughts guys?

The original Xbox It’s now an old system and disc readers go bad with years. I have 2004 Crystal Xbox and I no longer use discs becouse it wont read the majority of them. I’ve installed a 160GB IDE HDD and now I use it with the evox dashboard, launching my backups from there.

@matttia had mentioned that the drive may be broken. However, you can purchase replacement drives online and you then just need to swap the drive out and it should work again. Out of curiosity, does it even sound like it’s trying to read the disc, like can you hear the disc spinning and all that?
