I’ve been using this MacBook Pro for about 2 years now, and I have never had any problems with it. Today, when I turned it on, a 1cm black bar just appeared on the right hand side of my screen. I’m not sure what to do. I want to take it in to the store, but I can’t for a few days because of school and work, and I also can’t afford to lose my laptop for more than a few days due to midterms. Also, as a student, I really can’t afford a fee of around 700-900 dollars. If anyone has had this or a similar problem, and know what is causing this and know how to fix it, please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ouch! Not good, your display and or the cable connection to the T-CON board has been damaged. A bang on the edge of the display can snap the connections on the LCD and a bang on the clutch cover in the middle can also damage these connections leading into your uppercase which is where in this series the T-CON board is located.

In either case you’ll need a new display assembly. For now I would recommend you get the needed cable and adapter to hook up a external monitor (TV) so you can use your system until you can free up your system for the time it will take to get your display replaced. Did you take out AppleCare + for your system if you have the cost will be less if its still under contract. Otherwise this is an expensive repair! There is nothing you can do to fix this without replacing the part.
