This sounds like my issue, fresh food 50degrees_freezer 30degrees. Constant running, some frost on evaporator partially at the top of the coils but not all the way. Fans are working, I believe defrost heater working have not tested thermostat on evaporator though. Have not tested compressor resistances or the relay either. R12 refrigerant in system as it is an old GE bottom freezer style. Compressor not overly warm to the touch and hi pressure line also not very hot say very warm low pressure line seems cool to the touch. Driving me crazy trying to diagnose it. I don’t have the equipment for testing R-12 system pressures. Now what? Update (08/24/2022)
Brandon this is what i now have but it was a lot more laden with ice when i first opened it, the condenser pipe was solid with ice that i had to defrost with a blow dryer to get the ice to melt
@jofixitjoe typically the discharge line from the compressor leading to the condenser will be VERY hot, from the condenser to the evap will be noticeably warm, and the suction line noticeably cool if not cold. Should be sweating like a cold drink sitting on the counter. And what do you mean you don’t have the equipment for r12? Do you have equipment n training for refrigerant at all?
