Hi Guys, I have my 17” MacBook Pro Mid 2010 (Specs on the image)
I have a regular HDD with 500GB, and I’m looking to upgrade the disk to a NVMe of 500GB or 1TB. I’m not an expert on this, but I want to know if anyone has done this on this specific computer, I’ve been researching on the internet and there many people who has done this on a 2013,2014 2015 but not on a this specific laptop Can anyone tell if is possible and do i need to get it done? Thanks
Sorry to tell you, you are limited to what the system has for drive I/O which is only SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) PCIe/NVMe interface is a newer standard for drives there is no means to install one of these SSD’s With that said, you do have a SSD option! Replacing your current slow spinning rust drive for a 2.5” SSD! Here’s the guide MacBook Pro 17" Unibody Hard Drive Replacement Sadly, you can’t use the iFixit kit SSD (Crucial) as it is designed for the newer SATA MacBook Pro’s which have a SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) interface. You’ll need a drive which is able to run at the slower SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) speed. As an example the Samsung 870 EVO SSD. If you review the spec sheet note the Interface line clearly states “SATA 6 Gb/s Interface, compatible with SATA 3 Gb/s & 1.5 interfaces” Review the SSD you are looking at spec sheet, if it doesn’t state this move on to another drive.
