Will this model take 16GB or is it just the 13”? I’ve tried two 8GB Modules from a 2012 MacBook Pro 13” and the Device Chimes, Boots up and I can login. However as soon as I try and open any Application the Device KPs. Now the sticks say very little on them apart from 8GB 1600. Would PC3-8500 sticks work better on this older model? Or am I am just wasting my time? I was shocked when it booted and didn’t beep at me. I tried PRAM reset. Still the same Kernal Panics.
Sadly, this series only supports a max of 8 GB as the PCH HM55 doesn’t have the upper address lines enabled as Intel had a problem with this new PCH design. The second revision had the lines enabled and released in 2011. The next series MacBook Pro 15" 2.0 GHz i7 (Early 2011) is the first 15” to support upto 16 GB. The MacBook Pro 13" 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo (Mid-2010) does support 16 GB of RAM! And the first i-Series 13” model to support 16 GB is MacBook Pro 13" 2.3 GHz i5 (Early 2011)
